Over the last 10 years the average price of the pink, blue and yellow diamonds tracked by Fancy Color Research Foundation has risen by 77%. Among them natural pink diamonds have been the top performers with price growth of 116%, yellow diamonds’ prices have risen 20% and blue ones were up 81% in price.

Australia's Argyle Diamond Mine, located within the remote Kimberly region of Western Australia, before it was closed forever on the 3rd of November 2020 by Rio Tinto, has been producing over 90 percent of the world's pink diamonds. While other colored diamonds contain trace elements which result in their varied hues, pink diamonds contain no such impurities.

Australian Argyle pink diamonds, among 62 rare pink, red, blue and violet diamonds mined from the Argyle mine since 1979 have been sold by Rio Tinto at the Auction in December of 2020 and produced stunning record-breaking results – the diamonds have on average appreciated over 500 % over the past two decades, outperforming by far all major stock and bond markets.

Investment in involves obtaining so called The Argyle Pink Diamonds Gem Identification and Authenticity Document which is a report issued directly by the Argyle mine. Certification provides all details of the color grade a very important price factors. Accordingly, Argyle certification method is based on dividing pink diamonds into three major color categories: purplish pink (PP), pink (P), pink rose (PR). Each category is then given a number between 1 and 9 based upon its color intensity. The highest color intensity level is 1 whereas the lowest is 9. So, the highest quality Argyle purplish pink diamond would be a 1PP, the highest pink would be a 1P, the highest pink rose would be a 1PR.


Argyle certification method among other factors considers HUE (dominant color of the diamond), SATURATION (strength of the hue, strongest saturation is called vivid) and TONE (lightness or darkness) of the diamond.
GIA certificate is also an important piece of information about the stone as it provides clarity grade, exact dimensions, polish and symmetry grading as well as other important parameters:

Today there are no more significant sources of pink diamonds anywhere in the world. When new deposit of pink diamond bearing ore may be discovered it would take probably 10 years for a mine to evolve from discovery to production.
